FPT Founder and Chairman Dr. Truong Gia Binh has been honored with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon by the Japanese Government. Established in 1875, the prestigious accolade is bestowed on individuals with outstanding contributions to promoting friendly relations, academic exchange, or bilateral economic ties with Japan.
FPT Chairman was recognized for his decades-long dedication to fostering strong bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in terms of economic collaboration, talent development and cultural exchange. Upon receiving the award, he dedicated the honor to generations of FPT people who have nurtured the Vietnam-Japan friendship, as well as to the Japanese clients and partners who have supported FPT’s growth.

Under his strategic direction, FPT has become a leading Vietnamese enterprise in Japan, laying the foundation for cross-border collaboration and forging strong connections between the two nations' business communities. In 2020, FPT became the first Vietnamese IT enterprise to join the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren). In 2024, the company joined the Vietnamese Association of Digital Transformation in Japan (VADX Japan) and served as co-chair. Today, FPT has formed 7 joint ventures in the country and delivered digital transformation projects to more than 500 Japanese firms such as Itochu Corporation, Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions, Takenaka, Toppan, and more. FPT has bolstered the competitive edge of Japanese enterprises across various sectors, including retail, aviation, automotive, manufacturing, IT services, among others.
To address the growing demand for digital talent in Japan, Dr. Binh spearheaded the establishment of the Japanese Language Department at FPT University and the FPT Japan Academy in Tokyo. Additionally, FPT Semiconductor was established with the objective of training 10,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030, marking a significant step in strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Beyond business development, Dr. Binh and FPT have demonstrated consistent support for Japan. Following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Chairman Binh and other FPT leaders flew to Japan to support partners, pledging to provide both emotional and financial support in difficult times. During that period, nearly 200 FPT employees stayed in Japan to fulfill client commitments, while FPT staff in Vietnam contributed a day's salary to support efforts for the Japanese public.

After 21 years of operations in Japan, FPT has expanded to 17 offices and five development centers across 10 cities, employing over 5,000 local staff, along with more than 18,000 FPT engineers in Vietnam supporting projects for over 500 Japanese clients globally. Looking ahead, Dr. Binh emphasized FPT's ongoing commitment to the market, noting that the company’s goals align closely with the shared values of the Vietnam - Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. "Twenty years ago, Japan opened the doors for FPT to step onto the global stage. Today, our two nations are opening a new door together toward a shared future. FPT pledges to continue our role as bridge in this alliance, built on mutual respect, unwavering commitment, and the power of technology,” said Dr. Binh.
Underscoring its focus on facilitating AI transformation for the Japanese market, FPT offers a clear roadmap, operating models and resources needed to transition businesses toward AI-native operations. These efforts are bolstered by a workforce of over 30,000 AI-augmented engineers and infrastructure initiatives such as FPT Data & AI Integration Center and FPT AI Factory, equipped with NVIDIA supercomputers in Japan and Vietnam. The company also underscores continued investments into Cloud computing, AI, Cyber Security, Quantum Computing, Semiconductors, and UAV, with the aim to integrate further into Japan’s innovation ecosystem, drive supply chain diversification and resilience in a volatile global landscape. As Dr. Binh noted, FPT remains steadfast in its dedication to facilitating digital transformation and bolstering the competitive edge of Japanese enterprises.
Born in 1956, Dr. Binh earned his PhD in Mathematics and Physics from Lomonosov Moscow National General University and was honored as an Associate Professor by the State of Vietnam. He co-founded FPT in 1988 alongside 12 Vietnamese scientists. Throughout his career, Dr. Binh has received numerous international accolades, notably the Nikkei Asia Prize in 2013, recognizing his pivotal role in the advancement of Vietnam's IT industry.
